Arthur Smith named head coach of Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons have named Titans' offensive coordinator Arthur Smith as the team's next head coach. He was a highly sought candidate who interviewed for most openings throughout the league and even cancelled a second interview with Detroit to take the Atlanta job.

Smith has spent most of his career with the Titans; working his way up from defensive and offensive quality control positions. He was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2019--replacing now-Packers' head coach Matt La Fleur-- and quickly took the unit to another level. He is praised for his work with QB Ryan Tannehill, who has successfully shed the bust label he had in Miami.

Several players have had career years under Smith, and Atlanta's offensive talent is certainly appealing. It will be interesting to see if he can get the Falcons' running game to improve and make the offense as lethal as it once was.

The Falcons officially announced the hire on Friday. Smith replaces Dan Quinn, who is now the Cowboys' defensive coordinator after being fired midseason.
