Chicago Bears Hire Chiefs' Executive as General Manager

The Chicago Bears became the second team to hire a new general manager in the 2022 offseason by selecting Kansas City Chiefs executive director of player personnel Ryan Poles on Tuesday. Poles had several interviews and was also a finalist for the vacancies in New York and Minnesota.

Poles is a younger general manager at just 36-years old and is also a former NFL player. He only spent one year in the league, coincidentally with Chicago, before joining the Chiefs' personnel department in 2009. Kansas City has built a roster that many teams have come to envy, warranting a promotion for one of its top contributors.

One big condition that has been reported is that Poles wanted to make his own head coaching hire. Veteran head coach Jim Caldwell was in Chicago today, while Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, and Saints defensive coordinator Dennis Allen have emerged as other top candidates for the position.
