Chiefs Trade Star Receiver to Dolphins
In a surprise move, the Kansas City Chiefs trades star wide receiver Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins on Wednesday. Kansas City will receive a 2022 first-round pick, second-round pick, and fourth-round pick in addition to 2023 fourth-and sixth-round picks in return for the All-Pro receiver.
Hill entered the league as a fifth-round draft choice out of West Alabama in 2016 and emerged as a speedster and deep threat immediately. In his six seasons since, he has amassed four seasons with over 1,000 receiving yards, 62 total touchdowns, six Pro Bowl selections, and three All-Pro selections.
The addition of Hill adds a legitimate No. 1 receiver to a Dolphins' roster that was thin at the position. Now, the offense will have a chance to spread the field with two of the fastest guys in the league in Hill and Jaylen Waddle. Plus, they still have Davante Parker, who is underrated and impressive when healthy.
While he was easily the best weapon Kansas City had, the Chiefs still have a pretty good group of receivers. They signed JuJu Smith-Schuster from Pittsburgh and he should take over the No. 1 role-- albeit with less threatening speed. Mecole Hardman was drafted as another speedster from Georgia in 2019 and has used that to earn recognition as a returner. He should take over the speed receiver role, and don't forget about Josh Gordon if he can stay on the field.
Upon completion of the trade, Hill signed a four-year/$120 million contract extension.
