Frisco Football Classic

There are two bowl games on Thursday, and the first one is the Frisco Football Classic. This is a temporary Bowl game played in Frisco, Texas to accommodate all the bowl-eligible teams and will pit North Texas against Miami(OH). It airs at 3:30 PM ET on ESPN.

North Texas went 6-6 and finished in third place in the West division of Conference USA. The Mean Green had a miserable 1-6 start but enter this game winners of five consecutive games including an upset of previously unbeaten Texas-San Antonio.

After struggling mightily in the first seven games, the UNT offense has scored at least 30 points in four of the last five games. This team is usually known as a high-scoring, pass-heavy offense but has been at its best running the ball this year. Running back Deandre Torrey enters this game with 1,215 yards--nearly double his previous career-high-- and 13 touchdowns.

Miami (OH) also went 6-6 and finished in second place in the MAC East. Brett Gabbert-- younger brother of former UCF and NFL quarterback Blaine Gabbert-- runs the show under center. He has 2,418 passing yards and 24 touchdown passes this season and has a 1,000-yard receiver in Jack Sorenson.

These teams are incredibly similar when you look at the overall stats, Both offenses average around 29 points per game, and the defenses both give up nearly 225 passing yards and 150 rushing yards per game.

The big difference is the approach on offense. UNT runs for 100 yards more per game while Miami (OH) makes up for that in the passing game. We'll have to see how these contrasting styles play out.
