Jets fire GM Maccagnan
In a shocking move today, the New York Jets fired general manager Mike Maccagnan.
The timing of this move is questionable for a few reasons. When hiring and firing general managers and coaches, NFL teams will often make the changes at the same time. The Jets fired head coach Todd Bowles after last season but waited until months later to do the same for the GM. Maccagnan was also the one who navigated the team’s draft plans just a few weeks ago.
The most puzzling reason is that Maccagnan was the one who suggested the hiring of head coach Adam Gase to ownership. Gase has now been named the interim general manager, and reports that he was unhappy with the amount of spending Maccagnan did in the free agent market just add fuel to the fire.
Several personnel members, who have previous connections to Gase, have been rumored as replacement candidates.
