Malzahn out at Auburn
After a disappointing 2020 season, Auburn has fired head football coach Gus Malzahn. Malzahn finished his tenure in Auburn with a 68-34 record in eight seasons at the helm.
There was plenty of optimism heading into the season for the Tigers. They had a promising young quarterback with a trio of good receivers to go along with solid players on the rest of the offense and a myriad of high-potential defensive players. The team never quite put it together the way everyone expected, which led patience for Malzahn to wear thin.
Malzahn had previously served as Auburn's offensive coordinator from 2009 to 2011 and returned as head coach in 2013 after a successful season as the head coach at Arkansas State .
Auburn finished the regular season with a 6-4 record. Defensive coordinator takes over as interim head coach should Auburn go to a bowl game. Steele is one of many rumored replacement options.
