My Top Rookies by Position 2019
Possibility of playing time was a tie-breaking factor in many cases. Obviously, everyone has their own opinion and can be wrong sometimes, but here are my top 5 rookies at each position RIGHT NOW:
QB (these are the only 3 rookies I see getting on the field this season. If Drew Lock- Broncos plays, he jumps over Jones)
Kyler Murray- Cardinals
Dwayne Haskins- Redskins
Daniel Jones-Giants
These are the only 3 rookies I see getting on the field this season. If Drew Lock- Broncos plays, he jumps over Jones.
RB
David Montgomery- Bears
Josh Jacobs- Raiders
Miles Sanders-Eagles
Justice Hill- Ravens
Alexander Mattison- Vikings
Mattison ends up on this list simply because Minnesota doesn’t really have anyone behind Dalvin Cook.
WR
DK Metcalf- Seahawks
Deebo Samuel- 49ers
Parris Campbell- Colts
Marquise Brown- Ravens
N’Keal Harry- Patriots
Seattle’s uncertainty at receiver gives Metcalf the top spot due to potential contribution. Brown is lower because the Ravens offense will be run heavy. Still expect him to factor into that phase as well.
TE
TJ Hockenson- Lions
Kahale Warring- Texans
Noah Fant- Broncos
Josh Oliver- Jaguars
Jace Sternberger- Packers
Hockenson’s the best all around tight end in this class. Warring gets the number 2 spot because he blocks better than the other three.
T
Andre Dillard- Eagles
Dalton Risner- Broncos
Jawaan Taylor- Jaguars
Greg Little- Panthers
Tytus Howard- Texans
Risner is the most complete tackle in my opinion, plus he’s playing for his hometown team. That comfortability can help a lot with his ability to adapt to the team. The others all go to teams in desperate need of o-linemen, which gives them opportunities.
G
Chris Lindstrom- Falcons
Cody Ford- Bills
Dru Samia- Redskins
Nate Davis- Titans
Ben Powers- Ravens
Lindstrom tops the list because he is a natural guard, while Ford is making the switch from tackle. I expect both to start but also a small learning curve for Ford. Samia, Davis, and Powers will all compete for playing time with their respective teams.
C
Erik McCoy- Saints
Garrett Bradbury- Vikings
Elgton Jenkins- Packers
Lamont Gaillard- Cardinals
Ross Pierschbacher- Redskins
All these guys should push for playing time. McCoy jumps Bradbury for me because he is a little more physical. Both will be good players right away.
DT
Quinnen Williams- Jets
Ed Oliver- Bills
Christian Wilkins- Dolphins
Jerry Tillery- Chargers
Trysten Hill- Cowboys
I shouldn’t have to explain my top 3. Tillery and Hill are guys I love to watch, so I had to include them.
DE
Josh Allen- Jaguars
Montez Sweat- Redskins
Nick Bosa- 49ers
Brian Burns- Panthers
Clelin Ferrell- Raiders
Deep class. I tend to favor the longer, more athletic and explosive d-ends, which is why Allen and Sweat are at the top and also why Burns jumps Ferrell. These guys should all bey day 1 starters.
LB
Devin White- Buccaneers
Devin Bush- Steelers
Bobby Okereke- Colts
Germaine Pratt- Bengals
Drue Tranquill- Chargers
Pratt adds speed to group that needs it,making him an immediate consideration for quality playing time. Tranquill plays with a toughness that NFL linebackers need. It was also not a very deep class, so options were limited.
CB
Byron Murphy- Cardinals
DeAndre Baker- Giants
Greedy Williams- Browns
Justin Layne- Steelers
Sean Bunting- Buccaneers
Thought about putting Layne ahead of Greedy, but, while Layne is more physical and sound, Greedy makes more explosive plays. Bunting gets the last spot because of how abysmal Tampa’s secondary is. He may end up starting.
S
Johnathan Abram- Raiders
Nasir Adderley- Chargers
Chauncey Gardner-Johnson- Saints
Deionte Thompson- Cardinals
Marquise Blair- Seahawks
Blair jumps guys like Taylor Rapp and Juan Thornhill because he fits his defense better.
