Redskins hire Rivera & Del Rio

Running late on this one, but the Washington Redskins have quickly hired Ron Rivera as their new head coach. Rivera has also made his first staff addition, hiring former Raiders and Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio as his defensive coordinator.

Rivera was fired by the Carolina Panthers after a home loss to, ironically, the Washington Redskins. The loss dropped the Panthers to 5-7 on the season. In 9 years with Carolina, Rivera went 76-63-1 with 3 division titles, 4 playoff appearances, and a Super Bowl appearance. He also established the team as a consistently elite defense.

Del Rio brings a wealth of NFL coaching experience to the staff. He has previously been a defensive coordinator in both Carolina and Denver, and he has a total of 12 years experience as a head coach between Jacksonville and Oakland.
