Shorter preseason may be coming to NFL

Commissioner Roger Goodell is making headlines today after stating that 4 preseason games are “unnecessary.”

This is a stance that Goodell has continued to hold. It should not be surprising given that his goal as commissioner has always been to make the game safer for the players.

The catch with his proposal in the past has been the intention of also extending the regular season to 18 games. Players do not want this change, as it would make a shorter preseason but still the same number of games.

His comments are coming at a time when the league will be able to at least propose the change. The current collective bargaining agreement expires after next season, so the league and players’ association will be negotiating all possible changes for the future of the NFL.
