South Carolina hires Shane Beamer
South Carolina has decide to hire Oklahoma assistant coach Shane Beamer as its next head football coach. He will replace Will Muschamp, who lasted just more than four years and had a 28-30 record.
Beamer is the son of legendary Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer. That gives him strong bloodlines within the industry but could also give him tremendous pressure to succeed.
The younger Beamer has been in coaching since 2000. He started as a graduate assistant at Georgia Tech and held the same position at Tennessee for the following three years. His first regular assistant position was with Mississippi State, and he served on South Carolina's staff from 2006 to 2010. He joined his father's staff in 2011 before moving on to Georgia and Oklahoma.
Beamer clearly has a deep coaching background and has been influenced by several great coaches. His previous experience with the Gamecocks should only help him more as he begins his head coaching career. This seems like a great hire for South Carolina.
