Texans hire new general manager

The Houston Texans have found their guy. Two years after being blocked from hiring him, Houston has hired Patriots' Director of Player Personnel Nick Caserio as its next general manager.

Caserio has been a key cog in New England's historic twenty year run. He has been with the team since 2001, serving as a scouting executive and a coach--sometimes simultaneously-- over the past 19 years and winning six Super Bowls. He was promoted to Director of Pro Personnel in 2004 and to Director of Player Personnel in 2008.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Houston gave Caserio a six year contract that will make him one of the three highest-paid GMs in the league.

Caserio is the first general manager hire made this season. The remaining openings are Detroit, Atlanta, Washington, Carolina, Denver, and Jacksonville.
