Trent Baalke named Jaguars' GM

Questions about potential GM pairings for Urban Meyer in Jacksonville have been answered. The Jaguars are naming Trent Baalke as the team's new general manager. Baalke spent six seasons in the same position in San Francisco and helped the 49ers reach the Super Bowl in 2013.

Baalke began his NFL executive career scouting for the Jets, Washington, and the 49ers. It took him just six years to rise from a regional scout to general manager in San Francisco. In his first season as GM, the Niners went from a 6-10 team to a 13-3 team, and Baalke was named Executive of the Year by Pro Football Writers of America.

Rumors that Baalke clashed with head coach Jim Harbaugh after the 2014 season ultimately led to Harbaugh leaving the franchise. Baalke was never able to find a sufficient replacement and was relieved of his duties after the 2016 season along with then-head coach Chip Kelly.

Baalke spent a couple years as a consultant for the league and was hired by Jacksonville last February as director of pro personnel. He was named interim GM in November and now assumes the permanent position.
